Chanukah Re-Ignited @ Jewish Theological Seminary

A full JTS auditorium tonight to hear a great panel of rabbis and journalists discuss the meaning of this 2200 year-old holiday  חֲנֻכָּה!

Here I am with my friends Rabbi Nachum ("The RaNaK"), Bob, and Sandi.

Trays of holiday-appropriate latkes, sour cream, and apple sauce preceded the talk!

Me with friends Eileen and Rabbi Joel ("The RaJoA") sporting a great hipster beard!

After the panel discussion, the entire cantorial school and cantors from local synagogues sang Chanukah songs for us!
See stage far right for SPECIAL TREAT...
That's Peter Yarrow (from Peter, Paul & Mary) leading us in his song Light One Candle.  It was amazing!

Many beautiful messages and insights were shared by the panelists.  Full illumination starts with lighting one candle at a time.

Toronto visit, October 2014

Toronto pics from October visit (for cousin Ethan's bar mitzvah).  We had a great time.

Below is a photo of me and my new boyfriend!

Rice to Riches

After work, today, I stopped into my favourite store in the NoLita neighbourhood.  It's called Rice to Riches.  And it sells twenty flavours of rice pudding!

I often take visitors here to experience the "real" New York: over-priced designer food and fashion in hyped-up settings full of tourists!   This place fits the bill.

Voilà: my dinner.  I mean dessert Mascarpone & Cherries  with fresh whipped cream.

Their flying-saucer containers are famous among the afflicted.  Customers now buy them separately with funky spoon, above.

To assuage my conscience, I bought take-out for my fellow Ontarian office-mate, Jason B!  It will be on his desk in the morning.  Flavour: Caramel Combustion

Rumour has it that this store was set up by mafioso to launder money.
They wanted a crazy, over-priced product that no one would buy.  The NY Times wrote about it!

Walking up the West Side

Last weekend, I took a Giant Walk from Tribeca to the Upper West Side - via the High Line Park.  An abandoned elevated, rail line in Manhattan, now a beautiful urban walkway!  Pictured below is the final extension to 32nd Street.

Trendy condos and hotels have been built above and around the pathway!

I'm eating a delicious pecan-raisin bread stick from Amy's Bread, an artisinal NYC bakery in the Chelsea Market, one of my faves!

Below the High Line, I found this car with crazy bumper stickers.  Land of Freedom of Expression!

Another selfie of me at the prow of the Intrepid.  It's huge!

American Thanksgiving... in Canada!

A great visit today in Ottawa today with Dad and Barb.    Dad was up early this morning with his personal trainer.  Click here for a 2 minute video of Dad in action!

He's in good hands with Chris: balance and strength training, below!
